Overview

Use this article to change the price of a listing that's already live on a marketplace — whether you want to make a quick tweak to the price it's currently running at, or start fresh with a completely different starting price. Come back here any time you need to update the price on an item that's already been published.

Before you start

You'll need an item that's already been assigned a Merchandising Strategy and published, so it's live on a marketplace. A Merchandising Strategy is the strategy and steps Listing Monster runs for an item over time once it's published.

Both ways to change the price live on the same place: your item's Merchandising Strategy tab.

Open the item you want to manage.
Click into its Merchandising Strategy tab.

Change the price of a step

You can edit the price of any step in your item's Merchandising Strategy directly from the Merchandising Strategy tab. This works whether your strategy has just one step or several.

Click Edit next to your marketplace (for example, eBay).
In the strategy box that opens, update the price field for the step you want to change.
Click Save.

Your change is pushed out to your marketplace automatically as soon as you click Save — you don't need to do anything else to make it live.

Change your price and switch your Merchandising Strategy

Use Re-assign Strategy instead of Edit when you want to set a new price and move the item onto a different Merchandising Strategy at the same time — not just for a price-only change, which Edit already covers. Doing this ends your item's current Merchandising Strategy and starts a new one in its place, using the price you set.

Click the ⋮ (three dots) icon in the top right of the Merchandising Strategy tab.
Click Re-assign Strategy.
In the Reassign Strategy Steps box, choose a strategy from the dropdown — pick one of your premade strategies, or leave it set to Custom to build your own.
Click Select.
Adjust the price — and the steps, if needed.
Click Save.

Your new strategy starts straight away and is pushed out to your marketplace automatically — you don't need any further steps to make it live.

Expected result

✅ Your live listing now shows the new price — either from a quick edit to the current step, or from a fresh starting price under a newly assigned strategy. You can come back to the Merchandising Strategy tab any time to change the price again.

💡 Tips and best practice

Use Edit for a price change on its own — it saves and pushes to your marketplace in one go, with no extra confirmation step, and works no matter how many times you've changed the price before.
Use Re-assign Strategy only when you also want to move the item onto a different Merchandising Strategy — it ends the current strategy and starts a new one at the price you set.
Double-check your new price before clicking Save on either option, since both push straight to your marketplace with no confirmation step afterwards.
After changing the price, check the listing on your marketplace to confirm the new price has come through.

⚠️ Troubleshooting / FAQs

Why does my item show "Export failed" after I change the price?

Export failed means Listing Monster tried to push your price change out to the marketplace, and the export didn't go through. See Fix eBay export failed errors for the most common causes and how to fix them.

Why does eBay want a Buy It Now price?

This happens when your payment policy has Require immediate payment when buyer uses Buy it now turned on, but the listing doesn't have a Buy It Now price set. Fix this on eBay by editing the payment policy and unticking that option, or by adding a Buy It Now price to the listing when you set your price in Listing Monster.
