Find out which eBay business policy changes are safe to make, and how to move your listings to a new postage policy in Listing Monster, so they stay synced.

Written by India Neckel

Overview

Use this article to update your eBay business policies safely, so your Listing Monster listings stay synced with eBay. You'll need it whenever you want to change postage costs, handling times or other policy details, or switch your listings to a new policy.

eBay business policies are the saved postage, returns and payment settings you create on eBay and apply to your listings. Listing Monster uses these policies when it lists your items on eBay, so how you change them matters.

What you'll do:

  1. Make a safe change to an existing eBay policy

  2. Create a new eBay policy instead of renaming or deleting one

  3. Move listings to a new policy in Listing Monster

  4. Use the new policy for new listings in Listing Monster

The golden rules for changing eBay business policies

Changes to your eBay business policies need to be handled carefully, or your listings will stop syncing correctly with Listing Monster. Postage policies are the ones most likely to cause a problem, but these rules apply to all your eBay business policies.

  • ✅ Do change the details inside a policy, such as a postage price or handling time.

  • ✅ Do create a brand-new policy if you need one.

  • ❌ Don't change the name of a policy. Once an eBay policy is renamed, it will no longer sync correctly with Listing Monster.

  • ❌ Don't delete a policy. Leave old policies on eBay exactly as they are, even if you've stopped using them.

Make a safe change to an existing eBay policy

Changing the details inside an existing eBay business policy is safe and keeps your Listing Monster listings synced. For example, you can update a postage price or a handling time on your postage policy.

  1. On eBay, open the postage policy you want to update.

  2. Change the details you need, such as the postage price or the handling time.

  3. Leave the policy name exactly as it is.

  4. Save your changes on eBay.

Create a new eBay policy instead of renaming or deleting one

If you want a differently named policy, or a policy you no longer want to use, create a new eBay business policy rather than renaming or deleting the old one. This keeps every listing on the old policy synced with Listing Monster.

  1. On eBay, create a new business postage policy with the name and details you want.

  2. Save the new business policy on eBay.

  3. Leave the old policy exactly as it is. Don't rename it or delete it.

Send the Listing Monster team a message via Intercom, and we’ll sync your new policy to your account.

Once the new eBay policy is in place, you can choose how your listings in Listing Monster use it. You can move existing listings over, or leave them on the old policy and use the new one only for new listings.

Move listings to a new policy in Listing Monster

Moving a listing to a new eBay postage policy is done in Listing Monster, one item at a time. Moving listings is optional. You can also leave existing listings on the old policy and let them run through as normal.

Changing the postage policy on an item in Listing Monster takes two parts. First you choose the new policy on the item's Item Details tab. Then you re-run the item's merchandising strategy so the change is applied. A merchandising strategy is the set of pricing and listing steps Listing Monster runs for an item over time.

Choose the new postage policy on the Item Details tab

  1. In Listing Monster, click into the item you want to move to the new postage policy.

  2. Click the Item Details tab, next to the eBay tab at the top of the item.

  3. Scroll down to the policy dropdowns: Postage Policy, Payment Policy and Returns Policy.

  4. Open the Postage Policy dropdown.

  5. Select your new postage policy.

  6. Click Save at the bottom right of the Item Details tab.

Re-run the merchandising strategy to apply the new postage policy

  1. On the same item, click the Merchandising Strategy tab.

  2. Click the ⋮ (three dots) icon in the top right of the tabs.

  3. Click Re-run Current Steps.

Re-running the current steps runs the item's current merchandising strategy step again, with the new postage policy you saved on the Item Details tab.

Use the new policy for new listings in Listing Monster

You can add all your new listings to your new eBay postage policy as you create them in the Listing Monster app.

  1. On the Create a listing screen, go to Policies. Your postage, returns and payment policies are pre-filled with your defaults.

  2. Tap the postage policy.

  3. Select your new postage policy.

Expected result

✅ Your eBay business policies are updated, and every listing in Listing Monster stays synced with eBay. Listings on the old policy carry on as normal, and any listings you've moved or created use your new policy.

💡 Tips and best practice

  • Think of an eBay policy name as fixed once Listing Monster is using it — change what's inside the policy, never the name.

  • Give new eBay policies a clear, descriptive name from the start, so you won't be tempted to rename them later.

  • Keep old eBay policies even when you've stopped using them. Unused policies do no harm, but deleting one can break the sync for listings still on it.

  • After changing an item's postage policy in Listing Monster, always finish with Re-run Current Steps on the Merchandising Strategy tab. Saving on the Item Details tab alone isn't enough.

  • You don't have to move every listing at once. Letting existing listings run through on the old policy while new listings use the new one is a simpler way to switch over.

⚠️ Troubleshooting / FAQs

Can I change the postage price or handling time on my eBay postage policy?

Yes, you can change the postage price or handling time on an existing eBay postage policy. Changing the details inside a policy is safe and keeps your Listing Monster listings synced, as long as you don't change the policy name.

Can I rename my eBay postage policy?

No, you shouldn't rename an eBay postage policy, or any eBay business policy, that Listing Monster uses. A renamed policy will no longer sync correctly with Listing Monster. If you want a different name, create a new policy on eBay and leave the old one as it is.

Can I delete an eBay policy I don't use anymore?

No, don't delete an eBay business policy, even if you no longer use it. Leave the old policy on eBay exactly as it is, create a new policy if you need one, and then move listings across in Listing Monster or use the new policy for new listings.

Do I have to move all my listings to the new eBay policy?

No, you don't have to move all your listings to a new eBay policy. You can move listings across one at a time in Listing Monster. Select the new policy in the Postage Policy dropdown on the item's Item Details tab and click Save, then click Re-run Current Steps from the ⋮ menu on the Merchandising Strategy tab. Or you can let existing listings run through on the old policy and add only your new listings to the new one.

I changed the postage policy on an item but nothing happened

Saving a new postage policy on the Item Details tab isn't the final step in Listing Monster. To apply the change, go to the item's Merchandising Strategy tab, click the ⋮ (three dots) icon in the top right, and click Re-run Current Steps.
